Kathleen F. “Kathy” Hayden, age 79, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
Born November 19, 1946, in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late Thomas James Farrell and Mary Priscilla (Stanley) Farrell. A proud New Yorker from Massapequa, Kathy moved to Bowie, Maryland on Halloween in 1965 when her father relocated for work. Even in her youth, Kathy’s vibrant spirit shone brightly—at age 16, she was honored as the “Poppy Queen” for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Massapequa, proudly riding in their parade and representing her community with grace and pride.
Kathy dedicated nearly four decades of service to the Bowie Health Center. From its grand opening in 1979 until her retirement in 2018, Kathy worked in the front office, warmly welcoming patients and staff alike with her signature kindness and professionalism.
Kathy’s life was filled with joy, laughter, and love. She treasured time spent with her family—soaking up sunshine in her backyard, playing cards, celebrating family milestones, and sharing meals filled with laughter while playing board games and enjoying lively conversations. Her Tuesday nights were reserved for bingo at the Knights of Columbus, and she delighted in traveling with her close friends from the Bowie Health Center.
A devoted grandmother, Kathy could always be found cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines at her grandchildren’s athletic and school events, making friends wherever she went. She always supported whatever her grandchildren’s aspirations were such as attending comedy shows, award ceremonies and band concerts. She was also a very passionate fan of the Washington Commanders, never missing a chance to support her team.
Kathy will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Her warmth, dedication, and vibrant spirit leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
Kathy is the wife of 56 years to her beloved husband, Tony Edward Hayden of Bowie, daughters Tammy LeMasters of Wheeling, West Virginia, Kelly Lippincott (Keith) of Riva, Maryland, Tracy Scarborough (Reggie) of Bowie, Tony Edward Hayden, II also of Bowie.
