Kathlyn Johanne Bevard, age 92, of New Carrollton, Maryland died November 21, 2023, at Brightview Senior Living Crofton Riverwalk. 

Born July 24, 1931, in Stavanger, Norway she was the first-born daughter of the late Carl W. Refsland and Astrid Refsland (Steen), sister to the late Reidun Hestvik (Refsland). 

She was an active member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Bowie, Maryland. Kathlyn was also a lifetime member of The Sons of Norway Nordkap Lodge 215, Baltimore. In 1953, Kathlyn earned her RN degree from Women’s Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore. She retired from nursing in 1989 after 36 years of service in Baltimore and Prince Georges County. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, painting, charitable pursuits for her community including cultural missions to Central America. She loved travel and enjoyed many trips around the world with her husband, Liston B. Bevard, Sr. 

Kathlyn Johanne is survived by her son Liston Bevard, Jr. of Walnut Creek, California; son William Bevard and his wife Kim of Davidsonville, Maryland; daughter Laura Hunter and her husband Mike of Lanham, Maryland. She was a proud Grandmother to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Kathlyn was also an auntie to many Bevard and Hestvik nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Liston B. Bevard, Sr. (2004); sister Reidun Hestvik (1984); nephew Erik Hestvik (1993); grandson Ryan Bevard (2010) and grandson William J. Bevard (2017). 

Funeral arrangements will be coordinated with Beall Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Bowie, Maryland. Church service and Celebration of Life will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church in Bowie, early 2024. Kathlyn will be interred alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery. Dates and time are to be determined, the announcement will be shared by the Church and Beall Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kathlyn’s name may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 9500 Medical Center Drive, suite 250, Largo, Maryland 20774 or to All Saints Lutheran Church, 16510 Mount Oak Road, Bowie, Maryland 20716.
