Kenneth “Ken” Carl Buckholdt (1942-2026). Ken passed away on May 28, 2026, age 83 surrounded by his family. Ken was a long-time resident of Laurel, Maryland but his heart belonged to Texas.

Ken is survived by his children and grandchildren: Kelly (Juliet), Kevin, Kate, Rick (Aspin, Gauge,Logan,Ricky, Jackson, Mia), Jeff, Kenny (Caiden, Khloe). His sisters Darlene, Denise and Stephanie.

He is preceded in death by his Mother Alberta Alva Szafranski, Father Carl Vincent Buckholdt, of San Antonio Texas, and his sisters Carol, Diane and Karen.

Ken was a devout Catholic Christian who loved his family and friends. He was a man who served his country in multiple capacities. He served with the Metropolitan Police Department until he retired after 20 years. He also retired from the Department of Agriculture. In addition, he was a member of the Army and Army Reserve where he retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. Ken was with the Military Police for 24 years and 5 months in addition to being a General Engineer Supervisor with Admin Systems. He was awarded many medals: meritorious service, Army Commendation, Army Achievement, 5 Reserve Components Achievement Medals, 2 National Defense Service Medals and more.

Ken was a kind and generous person who enjoyed his family and friends. Always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. His greatest joy was attending church and bringing his kids and grandkids into the Catholic life. He loved spending time with the family and especially enjoyed the diverse conversations from everyone. He also loved to watch his family while they enjoyed a myriad of activities. He was known for taking the grandkids to different adventures like day trips to the beach or “lunch bunch” on Wednesdays.

Those who knew Ken knew him as genuine, authentic, honest and full of integrity. Always ready with a greeting even if he has not seen you for years. He was a true friend to many and loved to share stories. His legacy is his family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

A Memorial will be held at Resurrection of our Lord in Laurel, Md on July 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM with a repast to follow in the meeting hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ken’s life. The family would like to thank everyone for all their kind remarks, well-wishes and fond remembrances. Flowers and donations can be sent to Resurrection of our Lord in his memory.
