Kymberleighe Yvonne Richardson, born Kim Murphy in Baltimore, MD, on April 15, 1968, was a devoted spouse, loving parent of two, and a respected professional known and cherished in the industry. Affectionately called Bunny Rabbit and Madam Sexy, Kym was a towering spirit whose presence filled every room.
First and foremost, Kym loved her children. No matter how grown Justice and Dana became, they were always “my babies.” Kym’s happiest moments were spent with them—hanging out, debating movies, sharing gossip, and talking about life. Kym also “adopted” many of their friends as additional babies, loving each one and keeping them close.
Kym lived by the belief: “Blossom where you are planted”. Make the place where you live the best you can. Kym cherished every house that became home, but the current home—she referred to as her “Doll House”—was especially meaningful. It wasn’t about the walls, but what the home provided: space to keep the kids near while keeping her privacy. Decorating and improving the home brought Kym real joy. Over the years, Kym said this would be her final home; “I will pass here, and the repast would be held in this house”. The family will honor that wish.
The gathering of people was another one of her joys. But she had a complicated relationship with the process. She loved having people in the house. The larger the gathering the better but then she would not want people around at other times. But the large gathering of good friends, good conversation and good food made her happy. She wanted to make deep connections with people to be able to see the person and feel being seen. Her best time was the Christmas gatherings; she got to give gifts and see family and friends.
Kym was also dedicated to the Lord. Here she had a unique view of things. She could feel the spirits around us and feel the grace of God in the world. She also believed in reincarnation. “We must return to this world until we are in our best form to be able to sit with the Lord”. She accepted God’s blessing, and we witnessed her getting exceptional blessings that were not available to others. She also argued that she is scheduled to come back to this world one more time because she has not mastered forgiveness yet.
Kym was a dedicated servant of the people. For her adult life she focused on providing service to others. She worked in Sandtown as a GED educator and social worker, she transitioned to YouthBuild where she continued to serve as a teacher, social worker and grant writer. Her career transitioned to East of the River Clergy Police Community Partnership where she continued to service the community to transition kids home. Her service to the community continued as she worked as the director of Life Deeds to focus on housing and transitioning kids back into the community. Her final workplace was with Echelon as the Executive Director where she oversaw several programs that advocated for homeless services. As she walked this path she worked with city legislators, community leaders, and two Presidents (Clinton and Obama). With her extensive background she was asked why she never started her own agency, but she replied that her calling and gift from God is to serve. So, she spent a lifetime in service to many, she educated and advocated to make their lives better.
Any description of Kym’s life is incomplete without mentioning her love of shopping. Kym loved the hunt for purses and shoes, and the smell of leather. When it was time to unwind, shopping was her retail therapy. In recent years, Kym also embraced thrifting, searching for unique pieces for the home. We would drive for hours to buy one special item, simply to enjoy the day and the experience of making the find.
Kymberleighe left this world April 17, 2026. She leaves behind Mark Richardson (Husband), Justice and Dana Richardson (children), a new son, Jermayne (son in law) and William Oscar Murphy III (brother). Kym will be missed; she was a blessed spirit with an exceptional way of looking at life and living on her terms.
