On the morning of October 10, 1946, the second son of Mr. And Mrs. William Bankston, Sr., was born at 10:02 a.m. at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. LaHugh was preceded in death by his parents, father, William., mother, Leila, brother, William, Jr., and life companion, Jo-Anne (Sewell) Hunter. La Hugh is survived by his nephew, Damon William Bankston.
LaHugh was educated in the Dayton Public schools, graduating from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in 1964. He was further educated at Ohio University (OU), Athens, Ohio, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in March 1969 and a Masters in Education in June 1971. His professional career began as Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions at OU, March, 1969-June, 1973. After leaving Ohio University, LaHugh accepted the position of Director of Admissions at Federal City College the Nations first Public Land Grant College. Federal City College in 1978 merged with the District of Columbia Teachers College (DCTC) and the Washington Technical Institute (WTI) to become the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). LaHugh served in several positions, retiring as the Registrar in July 2005. While at UDC, LaHugh completed all of the coursework for the Doctorate of Public Administration at the University of Southern California (USC) Washington, D.C. Center. For a number of years, he served as a Trustee at East Friendship Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
LaHugh will be interred with his life companion at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Bladensburg, Md. 20722. Private
