Lovie Mae Avery

January 14, 1931 — March 14, 2022

The journey began for Lovie Mae Avery in Wewoka, Oklahoma to the late Rena and Claude Burton. She was the youngest of six children. Lovie resided in York, Pennsylvania for many years and later moved to Upper Marlboro, Maryland with her daughter and son in law.

Lovie married Carl Avery in 1957 and moved to York Pennsylvania. From this union one daughter, Carla was born.

Lovie was a woman of strong and profound faith. She was one of the founding members of Friendship Baptist Church in York Pennsylvania. She was also the first clerk of the church. Lovie was a productive and active member of various ministries including the Alter Guild, Choir, Junior and Senior Usher board, Culinary and Pastor’s Aide.

She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, one daughter Carla Burgess, one son-in-law Vincent Burgess, two granddaughters Jasmine and Brianna Burgess and one Goddaughter Deidra Dotts. She is also survived and mourned by one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She deeply loved God and her family, selflessly devoted her life to them and daily lived her conviction that with God’s help all things are possible.
