Margaret Ethel Nobis (Painter), 81, of Crofton, Maryland
September 24, 1943 – June 9, 2025
Margaret “Peggy” Ethel Nobis passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was 81 years old and a beloved resident of Crofton, Maryland.
Born on September 24, 1943, in Gallion, Ohio, Peggy was the daughter of the late John Clark Painter and Marcia Jean Painter (McIlyer). She graduated from Cedar Cliff High School in 1961 and went on to attend the University of Maryland, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Peggy’s lifelong passion for helping others led her to a devoted career as a Registered Nurse, specializing in OB/GYN care. Her nursing journey spanned the eastern seaboard from Baltimore, MD to Miami, FL - - spending most of her time in Maryland, where she served for over 20 years at the OB/GYN practice of Dr. Ricardo L. Scartascini. She was admired by colleagues and patients alike for her kindness, professionalism, and steady presence.
Above all else, Peggy was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Christopher M. Nobis and Kerry J. Nobis (Katherine Voight-Nobis); her grandchildren, Rylie L. Nobis (Rudolpho Vidotto), Julian E. Nobis, Cameron P. Voight, and Noa K. Nobis; and her great-grandchildren, Rudy Vidotto and Ren Vidotto. She is also survived by her brothers, John (Jack) Painter (Shawn) and James (Jim) Painter (Genevieve). Peggy was predeceased by her late husband, Martin Frank Basso, who passed in 2000.
Peggy’s life was full of the simple joys she loved most—spending time at the beach, traveling, RV camping, gardening, caring for her animals, reading, and cheering on her boys and grandchildren at their athletic events. Watching lacrosse always held a special place in her heart. She treasured time spent with her family and lifelong friends, always putting others before herself with strength, humor, and grace.
