Mario Marques of Greenbelt, MD passed away peacefully June 21, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 97.

Born March 26, 1928, in Taunton, Mass., he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. After an Honorable Discharge, he pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering at the University of Texas. While in school, he met his wife Elizabeth Ann Ash, who he married in October 1953.

After graduating, Mario pursued a career with the U.S. Department of Transportation, working on assignments in Texas, Utah, Colorado, Connecticut and Massachusetts before settling permanently in Greenbelt, where he and Ann raised four children.

Upon retirement from USDOT, Mario became a passionate woodworker. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed baking French breads, playing pinochle and bridge, solving jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching old Westerns and spending time with his family.

Mario is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Palmera and his brother James. He is survived by his wife Ann, his daughters Nancy Farrell (Jim) and Lori Ferschke (Roland); his sons Stephen (Karen) and John (Amy); eight grandchildren and one great-grand child.

He enjoyed a full life and will be dearly missed.
