In Loving Memory of Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grammy, Daughter, Sister, and Best Friend
August 8, 1960 – June 19, 2025
With broken hearts, we share the passing of Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald, our cherished “Mommers” and Grammy, a woman of deep grace, gentle strength, and boundless love. Mary passed peacefully on June 19, 2025, surrounded by the family who adored her.
Mary was the center of our family, a warm, steady presence who made everyone feel safe, seen, and loved. She gave her heart freely, shared her wisdom humbly, and created a home full of comfort, laughter, and light.
She was the devoted wife of Donald Fitzgerald, her partner in love and life for over 40 years. Together they built a family grounded in faith, kindness, and compassion.
Mary was a loving mother to: Corinne Fitzgerald, Donald Fitzgerald (Sara), Michael Fitzgerald (Cassie), and Jonathan Fitzgerald. Her “grandpups” were LilyBelle (Corinne) and Ela (Jonathan). Her children were the joy of her life and she cherished being their mom.
She was the treasured Grammy to five beloved grandchildren: Jameson, Vivienne (Spencer), Briella, Remington, and Ezekiel, who lit up her world. They will forever remember her stories, her hugs, her laughter, and the way she made every day feel special. Her grandchildren were her utter delight.
Mary was also the beloved daughter of Leonard (deceased) and Sarah Joanne Posa, and a dear sister to Patti Mason (Tim) and Margaret Gearin (Chris), with whom she shared a lifetime of memories, strength, and sisterly love.
To her many friends she was a loyal confidante, a zealous supporter, and one who could always be counted on to offer a kind word or share a kind deed. If you got to know Mary, you were daily in her prayers. Mary was larger than life to us, she poured herself out on our behalf and always put others’ needs before her own.
She was our best friend, the one we could lean on. She lived with extraordinary empathy, gave love without hesitation, and made each of us feel like the most important person in the room.
To know Mary was to also know Jesus Christ, because Mary could not help but pepper her conversation with references to Him, sharing His Gospel and revealing His person with her words and deeds. She esteemed others greater than herself and lifted up everyone she encountered. She was a true source of light and joy in this world, which feels darker and sadder without her. She has fought the good fight, she finished the race, she has kept the faith and now there is in store for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, awards to all who have longed for His appearing, as Mary did so fervently.
As J.R.R. Tolkien once wrote:
“End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass… and then you see it.”
Though we grieve deeply, we take comfort in knowing that Mary is present with the Lord and has passed from this vale of tears, to be with Him, where there is no more death, neither sorrow, nor suffering, nor pain. Her legacy will live on in every kind act, every soft word, every moment of joy we share in her honor.
Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald: our Grammy, our hero, our greatest gift. Thank you for your love, your strength, your life. You are with us always and forever. We love you deeply, cherish your memory, miss your light, and long for the day that we meet again.
