Mary Kay Daniels Ganning was born on June 15, 1944 to Mary Ennis Keeler and C. Evan Daniels in Orange, N.J. Raised in Little Falls, NJ with two older brothers, Craig Evan and Glenn Paul (deceased). Attended Little Falls Elementary #1 and Passaic Valley High School, graduating from Bucknell University (1966 BA in English) amd Rutgers (1967 MLS).
In 1967, she joined a group of "Special Recruits" from around the country in a 6 month intern program at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. remaining there in a variety of jobs for 36 years until retirement in 2003. These positions including being an analyst for the Card Division Mechanization Project (a project focused on improving handling of catalog card orders via optically readable order steps), being an analyst in the catalog cards from MARC (machine readable catalog) tapes, and developing the MADS (MARC accumulation and distribution system) at the card division. This led to a new position as the MARS format specialist and administrator.
After retirement, Mary Kay showed her love of data and for volunteering in the office as a data steward for over 20 years, assisting with capital campaigns as a campaign secretary, defining standards for entering parishioner information in application software used by the Archdiocese.
