Mary Ellen Keleti, a devoted mother, stepmother, grandmother and beloved great-grandmother passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026. She -was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Keleti and her daughter, Linda Morgan, whom she loved dearly. Mary Ellen worked as an Executive Secretary at National Geographic for thirty-five years before retiring in 1994, and was an avid Redskins fan her entire life. She and her late husband Steve regularly attended functions at the VFW and the Moose Lodge competing in shuffleboard and duckpin bowling leagues.
She is survived by her children: Frank Morgan (Terri), Terri Sturgess (Mike), Debbie Sasko (Rob); her stepchildren: Sallie Vitale, James Keleti and Penny LaCarrubba; and her grandchildren: Tracy Ridgeway, Michael Sturgess, Ryan Morgan, Seth Morgan, Robbie Sasko, Paige Martello, Jennifer Yarish, Julie Keleti, Michael and Nicholas Vitale, and Adelina LaCarrubba; and great-grandchildren: Payton McCulley, Wisdom and Wise Martello, Braelyn Catterton, Camdyn and Colton Yarish. Each of them carries forward her love, her strength, and the many lessons she shared throughout her life.
Mary Ellen Keleti will be remembered for her kindness, her steady presence, and the way she welcomed others with warmth and generosity. A life-long Catholic, her faith was her most precious possession. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories they created with her.
A viewing for friends and loved ones will be held at Beall Evans Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland on Monday, February 9th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. There will also be a Funeral Vigil Service and Rosary at Bealls. Funeral services will take place at St. Matthias Church in Lanham Maryland on Tuesday, February 10th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Fort Lincoln Cemetery following the church service. Following interment, a small reception will be held at BJ’s Brewhouse Restaurant located at 15701 Emerald Way, Bowie, MD starting at 12:30 Noon for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mary Ellen’s favorite charity, St. Judes Children Hospital.
