Lanham

Mary Lowry of Lanham, MD died peacefully on Saturday 3/4/23. She was the beloved wife of the late StanleyTucker, Sr. and Stafford D. Lowry, (Cookie.) Mother of Theresa Woodrum, Stanley Tucker, Debbie Tucker, Bridget Lowry and Angela McKeaver, son and laws William Woodrum and Gerald McKeaver. Sister of Catherine Fox and the late Christopher Whelehan, Jr. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Shane Borum.

Mary was born in Maryland on January 6th, 1939. She grew up in Seabrook MD and attended Bladensburg Highschool graduating in 1956. She Married Stanley Tucker in 1956. They had three children, Theresa, Stanley and Debbie. Stanley Sr. was tragically killed in a car accident in August 1963. She had to learn how to drive then and took a position with the Prince Georges County Government as a crossing guard. She was the crossing guard at St. Pius in Bowie for many years. She also participated in many parades throughout the county as part of her position. She bought her first home in Lanham, MD in the summer of 1966 and was still residing there at the time of her death. She later took a position in the camera department at Super Giant in West Lanham, MD. She was a dedicated hard worker. She met her second husband Cookie through one of her best friends, Mary Lowry who would become her sister in law. Mary and Cookie married in February 1974. She had two more children, Bridget and Angie. Cookie was a lifetime souvenir vendor in Washington DC. Mary often worked along his side after Bridget and Angie were born. They were still doing some vending when Cookie died in June of 2009 at the age of 81.

After a lifelong battle with Lewy Body Disease she is finally at peace. Not many people were aware of her silent suffering. Over the years Mary was surrounded by a loving family, multiple brothers and sisters in law and a countless number of nieces, nephews and great friends. She was always willing to provide a helping hand where needed. She held many functions for family and friends in her home. It was her mother's wish, Barbara Whelehan, that the family keep together and it is Mary's wish that this continue. She will be greatly missed and we know that we will meet up with her again one day.
