Maureen Anne Rickford, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on June 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, friends, and caregivers. Born in Georgetown, Guyana, on September 26th, 1943, she was the heart and soul of her family. Maureen emigrated from Guyana to Toronto, Canada, where she lived until moving to reside in Maryland.
She was the daughter of the late Ursula and Basil Gaskin, both of Guyana. The sister of the late Edmund Gaskin, the late Raymond Gaskin, the late Patricia Lashley, the late Stephen Gaskin, the late Marguerite Riekie, and her surviving siblings, Shirley Gaskin, John Gaskin, and Camille Gaskin Reyes. She was Auntie Maureen to her nieces and nephews, Michelle, Marcelle, Maxine, Melisa, Ernesto, Nadezdah, Orsella, Roberto, Maria, Rheanna, Christopher, Stephen, Chrissy, Danny, David and more. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Rita Gaskin, wife of John Gaskin, and many other relatives and friends.
Maureen lived a life of generosity and caring for all, family, and friends. She was one of the most caring people who always thought about everyone before herself. She loved hosting family gatherings, preparing lovely meals, and ensuring everyone was joyful. She was famous for her curry and roti, cook-up rice, black cake, cheese straws, and legendary rum punch.
We are grateful for her life and will always honor her memory.
Rest in Peace, Auntie Maureen. We love you.
