Michael A. Neal

Michael (Mike) A. Neal, age 67, of Cheverly, passed away after a long illness on June 9, 2026.

Mike was born to Lindsey B. Neal Jr. and Jeanette Bobo Neal on November 1, 1958, the youngest of five children. To his siblings, Mike was always the baby of the family but also the fiercest protector of his family. Even though Mike never married nor had children, Mike was a family man. He doted on his nieces and nephews like they were his own; his nephews looked to him as a mentor and as a friend. Mike always worried about the safety and well being of his brother and three sisters, sometimes with random calls to inquire if everyone’s health is ok, how they were doing at work, what did they do with their kids last weekend, did they remember to lock their doors, and so on.

Growing up in the busy Neal household and only being a year difference from his brother (nickname, Tony), there was one name spoken mostly by their father and grandfather when work was to be done; TonyMike! They did everything as a team. The elders in the family often relied on TonyMike to provide heavy labor when installing piers, building porches and outdoor kitchens, and other yard work. Other members of the family also referred to the two brothers as TonyMike because they were often “joined at the hip.”

In his youthful years, Mike was known around the Cheverly neighborhood as a “Baller”; Mike could play some basketball. He was often spotted on the basketball courts in Prince George’s County playing summer league ball with the County’s best. His skill set was so good that even famous college basketball coaches approached Mike to play for them. Mike also had an entrepreneur mindset as he was always looking for opportunities to add to his bank accounts; after graduating from Fairmount Heights HS, Mike worked three jobs at once several times.

Mike eventually settled into working one job and that was for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in the Parks and Recreation Department. Mike worked 30 years with this organization as a Carpenter at their Randall Farm facility. Mike’s work is still on display with some significant construction projects throughout the county including memorable exhibits for Nature Centers, festivals and conferences.

Many people, including all his nieces and nephews, knew Uncle Mike as a jokester. He loved making statements or telling stories with a straight face to get a rise out of someone and then break into boisterous laughter. This was especially true when he would talk politics. When challenging him on positions, you really needed to be full of facts or he would tear your argument apart. His political skills were put to good use while working on his friend and neighbor’s campaign to become Prince George’s County’s first African-American County Executive.

Being social was one of Mike’s strong suits. Mike could talk to strangers like they were old friends. At social gatherings, he enjoyed dressing dapper and “cutting a rug”; Mike could dance! He always gave his dance partners an experience. On his laid-back days, Mike enjoyed spending time at his cabin along the Potomac River while fishing with the men in the family. Always a trash talking guy’s weekend. In his later years, Mike took pride in being “an old school” guy. He never gave up his filp phone and enjoyed watching old movies, usually westerns.

After retirement, Mike took on the role of main caretaker to his mother. He was so devoted to her as her cognitive health declined. His love for his mother was beyond admirable and almost saintly. Mike’s brother and sisters were so grateful to have Mike taken on this role that ensured his mother received the best care possible. Unfortunately, Mike’s concentration on his mother’s and family’s well-being came at a cost for his own health. The family was sadden that Mike struggled in the last few months of his life as his health continued to decline. We are thankful that Mike is now at peace with the Lord and in the arms of his beloved mother and father.

Micheal was proceeded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his four siblings, Juliette Neal, Linda Breeze, Debra Robinson and Lindsey B. Neal III (Stephanie); his nieces and nephews, Kenneth McGill, Candace Cunningham, David Maurice Robinson Jr. (Bhebs), Deidra Robinson and Lindsey “Ben” Neal IV; great nieces and nephew, Jasmine McGill, Taylor McGill, Keniya McGill, Jade Osborne, Lindsay Cunningham, David M. Robinson III, and Danielle Aurora Robinson and close aunt, Cindy Neal.

The Neal family ask you to honor Mike’s memory and his love of family by spending time with your own family doing something special together.
