On Sunday, June 12, 2022, Monika Herold – a talented teacher, loving wife, and mother – passed away at the age of 37.
Monika will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 7 and a half years, Scott; her two children, Aleksander and Gabriel, her Babcia, her parents Stephen and Jolanta, her brother Kristian, his wife Kaitlin and their three children, Nicolas, Matthew, and Ellie, her brother Daniel and his wife Jennifer, and her numerous friends.
Monika was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 28, 1984, and she lived the rest of her life in Maryland. Monika considered the Crofton area to be her home, graduating from Arundel High School in 2002. After determining at a young age that she wanted to be a teacher, she then attended Frostburg State University, graduating in 2006 with an Education degree.
Monika had a passion for teaching and in 16 years, she impacted an entire generation of children at Riverdale Elementary School in Riverdale, Maryland and most recently at Montpelier Elementary School in Laurel, Maryland. One of Monika’s many talents was inspiring her students; she especially loved turning her ‘naughty’ students into great learners – they often would come back years later to visit Mrs. Herold just to say hello.
Monika married her husband, Scott, in 2014. They enjoyed traveling to Poland to visit her Babcia and Dziadiu, weekends away in Williamsburg and other vacations around the United States and Europe. They treasured spending time with family, friends and neighbors. Once Aleksander was old enough, they quickly became highly involved in his soccer, hockey and swim team.
Monika loved her children. They were the center of her world. She valued both her downtime with them at home as well as being active with them on the weekends. She was a proud mother and her children’s biggest cheerleader. Outside of her children, her priority was her family. She spent most Sundays enjoying the company of her family at her parents’ home. Monika shared a love of flowers with her Mom, ensuring her home was decorated with fresh flowers at all times.
Monika was a good friend to many. Anyone who was lucky enough to know Monika knew that she would light up a room. She was genuine, quick witted and she brought out the best in those around her.
We will remember Monika as a fun-loving, caring mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend who would always go out of her way to help others, or make them laugh when they least expected it. We will carry her in our hearts every day.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (masks required).
In lieu of flowers, Scott’s work family has set up a GoFundMe account that will be used to establish a college fund for Aleksander and Gabriel in her remembrance. If you would like to donate, please visit the GoFundMe page located at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-the-herold-family.
