With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Norma Evelyn Butler, who stepped peacefully into eternity on September 6, 2026, in Bowie, Maryland. Born on June 30, 1936, in the vibrant land of Guyana, Norma’s journey began like a dawn filled with warmth, promise, and untamed light. At twelve years old, she moved to Trinidad, where the island’s rhythmic soul and rich culture helped shape her into the remarkable, resilient force of nature she would become. Her life was a magnificent tapestry woven across continents—from the colorful streets of Trinidad to the historic neighborhoods of London, and into the bustling heart of New York City, leaving behind a legacy of grace, global spirit, and unforgettable warmth everywhere she walked.

Norma was a woman of rare, majestic strength, a steadfast pillar who faced life with unwavering courage and held a heart of pure gold. To know Norma was to be enveloped in a fierce, tender love; she protected her family with an intensity that made everyone around her feel safe, cherished, and unconditionally held. She moved through the world with dignity and compassion, touching countless lives and offering comfort to anyone in need. Her presence was a light that softened the darkest days, and her boundless generous spirit created a sanctuary for all who were blessed to call her family or friend.

Now reunited in heaven’s gentle embrace, Norma is rejoined with her beloved brother Fred, who passed years ago, and her cherished younger brother, Lionel Williams Jr., who was called home just a week before her. Though our hearts ache with the deep sorrow of their loss, we take solace in knowing that brother and sister walk hand-in-hand once more in eternal peace. Norma leaves behind an enduring lineage of love, surviving through her devoted sisters, Wendy, Sandra, Linda, and Carol, who shared the unbreakable bond of sisterhood through every season of life.

Her enduring spirit lives on most brightly through her beloved son, Dirk, and his wife, Jennifer, along with the absolute joy of her life, her three cherished grandchildren, Jabari Butler, Sania Butler, and Nkosi Butler. To her grandchildren, she was an endless well of wisdom, devotion, and unconditional love, leaving behind memories that will be treasured across generations. Though her absence leaves an ache that words can never fully capture, Norma Evelyn Butler’s spirit will forever shine in our hearts, reminding us to love fiercely, protect deeply, and cherish every single moment. She was dearly loved, will be profoundly missed, and will never be forgotten.
