Norma Lee Perry

Also known as Granma, Normi, Sue

June 3, 1942 – December 8th, 2024

Granma was an amazing woman. The countless lives she has touched, helped, guided. She was a very spiritual women who for years had been involved with the care of the poor in the Archdiocese of Washington, most frequently to those reaching out to Ascension Catholic Church for assistance. She was baptized here within days of being born and continued to be a member until the end. She participated in numerous church programs and activities over the years. She was a member of the Sodality an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for many years who frequently spent most of her Sundays bringing Holy Communion to and spending time with the homebound, sick, and dying…. even if that meant John lost his entire Sunday sitting in the car. She also served as president of the Saint Vincent De Paul Society at Ascension Catholic Church for over 10 years, giving countless hours gathering and distributing food and helping to secure shelter for the needy in the community. She organized food drives and walks to raise money for the poor and did her best to make sure all of the needy she served had Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with all the trimmings.

She was a semi-retired cosmetologist who owned and operated her own business, HAIR TALK, for over 30 years. She had a special passion for hair, and she was extremely skilled at what she did. She was a strong woman with unmeasurable courage and a work ethic that could have driven a field of cattle without a horse or a dog. Just a few weeks ago she was still cutting hair; when asked why she was working, she said; “I may not have the strength to do a color or a perm, but I can surely still cut hair... I need my fun money!”

She was a different kind of special. She and her late husband, Earle, would travel all over to watch the grandchildren play sports all throughout our childhoods. From Ash with basketball, to Jimmy with basketball and football, to the endless events she dragged her butt to for John. Earle also owned racehorses and was involved in the Racetrack throughout his life. Through this she developed a passion for thoroughbreds and watching them run. She loved taking the grandchildren to the track and betting on the races. She never quit, and she never stopped, she was a pistol ready to fire at any moment. She could tell you off and bless you all in the same sentence.

She was also one of the easiest people to talk to and even if you did not want to hear what she was saying, you knew she was saying it for a reason and there was meaning behind it. We cannot begin to count the number of people she called “my friend”, She will be with us for-ever and for-always. We love you, Norman!

She is welcomed into eternal life by two daughters, Becky and Dawn; her husbands, Goodie, James, and Earl “Abe”; her sister Leney and brother Russell; her parents Russell and Peggy; and a whole gang of troublemakers.

She is survived by her daughter, Dana (Ronnie), 3 grandchildren, Jimmy (Jenna), John (Katheryn) and Ashlee (David); 7 great grandchildren, Jayden, Anthony, Dash, Emilee, Jordyn, Jaxon, and Julia; her brother-in-law Gary; nieces Sam and Jese; and great nieces, Alyssa, Gabby, Elyza, and Maya.

In continued support of her service to the poor, we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Ascension Catholic Church in memory of Norma L Perry. Please include a notation that the donation is for the Poor Box.
