Norma was a force to be reckoned with. From birth she was high maintenance. Life started by kicking her twin brother out of the womb so that she could make her surprise grand entrance. Being an only girl (with 3 older brothers), she developed a keen eye, sharp wit and snappy sense of humor. As she grew up, the town of Boomer could not hold her dreams and she eventually headed down the road to Mongomery to attend West Virginia Tech (WVT) and attained a degree in accounting. During her time at WVT, she caught the eye of a star handsome football player, named Norman Scites (notice the name similarities). He won her heart, and they took a gamble on each other in 1965 and got married. As with any journey, there were ups and downs and through it all… fierce love and strong family bonds were the key staples that they instilled in their kids. At their home, this journey came to an end on December 4, 2024, after almost 60 years.
A life is wrapped in the “dash” that separates her birth and death dates above. The “dash” in her life was filled with so many wonderful people, places and things, that it is impossible to list them all. We will try to hit a few highlights:
She gave birth to 3 amazing kids (even though we disagree on which of us may have been adopted). She worked to build a home, support her husband, raise the kids, helped other kids and families in the neighborhood, and enjoyed a wonderful network of friends, family, and coworkers. After the kids got into school, she worked for over 25 years at Sears as an accountant in the cash office.
Her hobbies: the 3 Bs: Bridge, Bowling, and Bingo; cards games (hearts, solitaire, and nickel/dime/quarter); lottery, scratch offs, and slots (are you noticing a theme); as well as watching soap operas or trash talk tv. She also enjoyed traveling, especially with family (cars, planes, trains, and cruise ships).
She was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” and Frances Lampkin as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by: Her husband, Norman Scites. Three kids: Kelly Kelley of Fort Knox, Kentucky, Beth Jensen (Eric) of Bowie, Maryland; and Lee Scites (Tara) of Land O Lakes, Florida. Three brothers: Kenneth Lampkin (Connie) of Pahrump, Nevada; Robert Lampkin (Frances) of Portsmouth, Virginia; and Eugene “Pooh” Lampkin (Karen) of Bluffton, South Carolina. Six grandkids: Linda Haines of Milton, Pennsylvania; David “DJ” Kelley (Hannah) of Newburg, Maryland; Tori Patterson (Josh) of Millersville, Maryland; Rienne and Driscoll Scites of Land O Lands, Florida; and Carmen Jensen of Grove Hill, Alabama. Nine great grandkids: Bradley Haines, Scarlett Haines, Melanie Kelley, David Kelley, George Kelley, Mamielynn McLaughlin, Sienna Patterson, Tatum Patterson, and Harlyn Jensen. Close friend: Ann Baldwin of Bowie, Maryland. In-laws: Lesta Wiley (Rick) of Branchland, West Virginia; Debbie Scites of Huntington, West Virginia.
She requested that we do not have a funeral; but that we have a party. To honor her request, we will be planning a celebration of her life for early next year. If you are interested in celebrating her life and sharing your memories, please reach out to either her husband or kids and we will keep you posted on the specifics.
