Dr. Olayiwola (Layi) Abegunrin, Sr. was born in Ikire, Osun state, Nigeria. He attended Baptist Day School and Aiyedade Grammar school in Ikire. He worked as a Produce Inspector before he left for the United states of America to further his studies. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Political Science from Baptist University, Dallas, Texas. His Masters (M.A.) in Political Science from University of North Texas, Denton Texas and his PhD in International Relations & Political science from Howard university, Washington DC. Dr. Layi Abegunrin was a hardworking, dedicated and productive scholar and teacher. He was a dedicated professor of International Relations at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He was also a distinguished professor of International Relations, African Studies and Political Economy at Howard university in Washington DC and University of Maryland. Dr. Layi Abegunrin was a prolific researcher and author. He authored, co-authored, edited and co-edited many books and published several articles in his field of Political Science and International Relations. He was a recipient of Howard University Distinguished Faculty Author for Scholarly Work published in 1998 to 2000 and 2002 to 2003. He was a Carnegie Mellon Foundation Fellow, Distinguished Professor in teaching and service in African American Studies. He served on many boards of international organizations, and on editorial boards of many academic journals. He was a member of the Honor Society of International Scholars and the Academic Advisory Board for Global Studies, Africa.  Dr. Layi Abegunrin was a simple and humble man and a dedicated husband and father. He was a pragmatic and loving Christian. He never forgot his humble social and cultural background. His existential values are simply social and humanistic. He loved this simple poem by William Blake, “To see a world in a grain of sand, A heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, And see Eternity in a moment.” Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle sleep peacefully in the loving hands of Christ (Amen).
