Olive Olivia DeWindt Domingo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, godmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at the age of 96 in Bowie, Maryland. Olive was born on February 22, 1929, in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, to the late Othelia Francell Rhymer DeWindt and Henrique Rudolph DeWindt. She was the youngest of seven siblings. She was predeceased by her five brothers — Orford, Clarence, Allen, Mario, and Warren — and her “one and only”, her sister, Viola. She was the mother of five children — Milton, Jannette, Jerrold (deceased), Jacqueline, and Julia (deceased).

In 1945, Olive moved to New York City, where she later met and married the late Julian Domingo, her partner for the next sixty eight years. Olive worked briefly in the garment and hotel industries before becoming a full-time homemaker. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, filled with the laughter of family, the aroma of her home cooking, and the strength of her enduring faith. Around 1969, Olive brought her mother, Othelia, from St. Thomas to New York and devoted herself to caring for her until her passing in 1980. She did the same for her father-in-law in the mid 1980s.

Faith and community were cornerstones of Olive’s life. While in New York, she was a member of the Third Moravian Church. After relocating to Bowie, Maryland in 1974 with her husband Julian, youngest daughter Julia, and mother Othelia, Olive returned to her Methodist roots and became a dedicated member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. For the next five decades, she served faithfully. She was a greeter, usher, organizer of Crop Walks to combat food insecurity, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Olive also found deep fellowship through Bible Study and the Agape Circle, especially its Secret Sister program.

In 2004, Olive and Julian moved to Cameron Grove, an adult community where she continued to thrive. She participated enthusiastically in fitness classes such as yoga, Tai Chi, line dancing, and water aerobics. She also joined the community’s Book Club, where she shared her love for reading and thoughtful conversation. She became known for her evening walks, always stopping along the way to greet neighbors. Well into her 90s, Olive could still be found on the dance floor—especially if a lively calypso tune was playing.

Olive loved to travel and shared many memorable trips with her husband Julian, including Europe, North Africa, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. They especially enjoyed cruises, but also eagerly anticipated their annual trips to Williamsburg and their summer roadtrips to Florida with their grandchildren.

She was a gracious hostess known for opening her home and heart to all. Whether she was planning elaborate milestone birthday celebrations or simply enjoying a quiet conversation over tea, Olive made every guest feel like family. Thanksgiving and Christmas, when the family gathered to celebrate the season and the birthdays of her husband and daughter, were especially dear to her.

Olive was known for her sense of humor, her radiant smile, and her ability to make friends across generations. She maintained strong ties with family and friends from St. Thomas to New York, Wisconsin, Atlanta, Florida, and Minnesota. She stayed closely connected to those she loved regardless of time or distance.

She leaves to mourn her son Milton Davis (Lorraine), her daughters Jannette Domingo (Clifford) and Jacqueline Mbayo (Marcellin), her grandchildren Jenai Richardson (Emond), Marisa Davis, and Justin Domingo, her great grandchildren Eden and Jade Richardson, her sisters-in-law Violet DeWindt, Olivia Domingo, and Lola Atkins, her nieces, nephews, cousins, godsons, and the many dear friends who felt the warmth of her embrace and the generosity of her spirit.

Olive lived a full, vibrant, and meaningful life—guided by faith, filled with love, and enriched by the people she held close. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 14900 Annapolis Road, Bowie Maryland at 11:00 am on June 21st, 2025.
