Listen to Obituary

Pat Huecker passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She spent her last days in the home of her daughter, surrounded by family.

Pat was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, wife, sister, advocate and loyal friend. Born Patrica Anne Moore on August 14, 1942 to the late John and Clara Marie Moore (Donahoe), Pat grew up in the South Hills of Pittsburgh and attended St. Bernard’s Elementary and Dormont High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount Mercy College (Carlow University) and taught elementary school in Pittsburgh and Washington DC. Pat married Harold (Bud) Huecker in 1965, and together they moved to Arlington, VA before settling in Crofton, MD to raise their family.

Pat was always generous with her time and talents. For the duration of her life, she was active in volunteering and advocating for her community. One of the earliest residents of Crofton, Pat was an integral part of founding community groups such as the Crofton Food Co-op, Crofton Babysitting Co-op, Crofton Co-op Nursery School, where she served as President, and the Crofton Swim and Tennis Club, where she remained a member for the duration of her life.

Her passion for education and advocacy for children led to her appointment to the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. Serving ten years on the Board, including a term as President, one of her favorite responsibilities was attending and speaking at graduations, and shaking hands with the new graduates.

Pat was dedicated to her community, actively participating in Anne Arundel County government and politics. As Crofton and Anne Arundel County grew, she worked behind the scenes researching issues to help foster smart growth. She developed extensive knowledge about the planning and zoning of Anne Arundel County and worked tirelessly to develop better roads, better use of open space, and better planning of land development. She was a member of the Planning Advisory Board and of the Growth Action Network. She was recognized as a community leader and activist by receiving the Crofton Citizen of the Year Award in both 1979 and 2018.

Pat’s greatest joy was time spent with her children and grandchildren, vacationing at Bethany Beach, attending their sporting events, creating holiday magic, and spending endless hours of time listening and laughing with them. She was preceded in death by her husband Bud (2018) and her sister, Mary Lou Black (2020), and is survived by her children Michael Huecker, Eileen Gele (Kenny), Molly Kuehl (Todd), and Kerry Moore, and six grandchildren: Erin, Megan, Madeline, Ryan, Ben and Taryn. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Moore, and sister, Karyn Moore, as well as nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

A Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Crofton on May 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a gathering at the Crofton Swim & Tennis Club to celebrate Pat’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Pat to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan) or to Montgomery Hospice.
