Paul Peter Paquin

Paul Paquin, age 82, died from Alzheimer’s disease on August 24, 2025, in Centerville, Maryland.

Born in Marlborough, MA, on August 20, 1943, while his father was in the service of the U.S. Navy. “Pokey,” as he was known by his hometown friends, grew up playing pool, cards and learning to fish and hunt with his dad and extended family in New England. Attending Holy Name High School, he served as class president and captain of the baseball team.

Paul and his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Belliveau, were married in June 1965 and brought to life four children and eventually welcomed a cherished Labrador retriever, Hollie. Paul and Lorraine shared their love for over sixty years of complete dedication to each other. Their home in Bowie was filled with joy, punctuated with hilarious family dinners.

Paul had a curious spirit, once being described as a walking encyclopedia. He enjoyed science fiction and nature documentaries. He earned advanced degrees in economics and was employed in the world of finance. He spent most of his career with Capital One Financial and with Fannie Mae before that. His role was as the liaison between the company and investors. What he loved about his work was that he “got to talk to smart people every day.”

Paul adopted the Baltimore Orioles as his hometown baseball team after moving the family to Maryland when he started work for Fannie Mae in 1972. He held season tickets at both Memorial Stadium and Camden Yards. His other competitive outlet was the poker table. He was a regular at Friday night house games in Bowie and planned the occasional trip to Las Vegas to coincide with work travel.

He was a do-it-yourselfer too, always fixing things around the house. As a young man, he learned carpentry and some plumbing. He did his own mechanical work on his classic Corvette, he tied fishing flies, and reloaded ammunition by hand.

Paul’s work took him to cities around the world, but his most cherished trips were to go fishing and hunting with his cousins and friends. He was equally adept with a flyrod in fresh water, heavy tackle in salt water, pass shooting at ducks, or deer from a few hundred yards. He achieved the lifetime master designation as a smallbore rifle marksman.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine, of Chester, daughter Renée Ayres and he husband David of Grasonville, daughter Michèle Barmoy and her husband Brad of Frostburg, son Kenneth and his wife Bobbie of Arnold, and son Raymond and his wife Melinda of Finksburg; eight grandchildren (who know him as “Pépère”), Ryan, Nicole and her husband Tyler, Sydney, Austin, Joseph, Molly, Samantha, and Danielle; and three great-grandchildren, Robby, Logan, and Hunter.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel (née Duplessis), and father, Adolph, of Marlborough, MA.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 12, 2025, at in the main church at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD beginning at 11:00 am, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian burial at noon. All are welcome to join the family for repast following the funeral.
