Paulette Jane Schraeder Chester

On April 16th, 2025, our beloved Paulette Jane Schraeder Chester united with our Lord and her cherished loved ones who had passed before her. Born on August 19th, 1944, in Peoria, Illinois, Paulette was a curious child who made friends easily. She had a profound love for the arts and later attended Bradley University, majoring in Arts.

Paulette was a dedicated employee throughout her career, living a life filled with joy. She loved swimming and traveling, especially to Aruba & Bahamas. Her passion for scuba diving led her to become an instructor. Paulette's sense of adventure and love for nature were evident in her stories of time spent in Canada, fishing and relaxing on a boat. She enjoyed walking in nature and photographing animals, earning the nickname "Deer Whisperer" for her habit of feeding deer Cheetos to observe them closely.

Her other passions included long scenic drives and motorcycle rides. Paulette's true love was her sewing machine, always ready to hem pants or create thoughtful, needed gifts. Her unique homemade Christmas tree remains a cherished symbol of her talents.

She moved from Illinois to Maryland in 2013 and became an active resident at The Lodge at Marlton. Despite being diagnosed with MS nearly 30 years ago, Paulette refused to let the disease limit her joy for life. The 16 months she resided at Lorien were filled with new friends and adventures. She served on the Resident Council, organizing activities for everyone to enjoy. Paulette was an avid slot player, always ready to hit any penny slot in sight. Playing card games and weekly Bingo adventures were highlights of her week. Her greatest joy was being baptized and she made sure everyone knew!

Paulette was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 30 years, Bob Chester, who passed in July 2023. She is survived by her daughter from her first marriage, Michelle Cox Jones, and her children from her second marriage: Stacey Patrick, Chad Chester and his wife Alexia Chalmers-Chester, Jay Chester and his wife Crystal Chester, Tim Chester, and Sherri Scott. She was also blessed with 8 beautiful grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 17, 2025, at Lorien of Columbia at 10:30 AM and Piney Orchard Clubhouse from 1 PM to 3 PM.
