Peggy St.Marie, 88, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026 surrounded by the family she so loved. Born September 16, 1937, in Romney, West Virginia, Peggy showed remarkable courage and independence as a teenager, leaving her hometown for Washington, D.C. with virtually nothing but the determination to build a life of her own.
It was in Washington that she met the love of her life, Jim St.Marie. They married in November 1958, beginning a partnership that would last more than six decades until Jim’s passing in March 2020. From the moment they met, Peggy knew exactly what she wanted from life: to be a great mother. By every measure, she succeeded.
Peggy was a devoted homemaker whose creativity found its way into everything she touched. She sewed, baked, restored furniture, threw pottery, and wove baskets — always with her hands busy and her home full of warmth. Her faith in God grounded her throughout her life, and in her later years, nothing brought her more joy than time spent with her great-grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her four children, Jim (Diana), Michele (John), Julie, and Patrick (Kelly); seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren who carry her spirit forward.
In keeping with her wishes, the family will honor Peggy with a small, private gathering. She will be laid to rest beside Jim at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, North Carolina.
Peggy will be remembered as a generous woman with an extraordinary heart — one who found her greatest purpose in loving her family, and who leaves behind a legacy of warmth, faith, and quiet strength.
