Peter Fung, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and relative, passed away peacefully at An An Assisted Living on March 13, 2026, at the age of 100. His life journey began on August 25, 1925, in the Guangdong province of China, where he was born to Pui-Ming Fung and Choi-Hah Ho. He was the third son of five. After leaving China, he worked and lived in Hong Kong and Macao. In 1951, he married Poi King Tam, a daughter of his employer.
He was very adaptable and enterprising. When he moved from China to Hong Kong, he learned enough English with little classroom training to work as a clerk in the import-export business. On that job he had to interact with English-speaking customers. When in 1969 he came with his family to the United States as immigrants, he worked as a waiter in the Chinese restaurant industry in Boston, MA, New York City, and Seabrooke, MD. After his wife passed away in 2014, he continued living with his son Edwin and his family in Lanham, MD.
Peter loved to spend weekends with his family. While living in Hong Kong, he would take his family to a dim-sum lunch on Sundays and take his family to the beach in the afternoon. He loved playing mahjong and continued playing it in the United States with family and friends. He was a sports fan and loved to watch TV broadcasts of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. He also enjoyed listening to popular songs sung by Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, and Patti Page, as well as classic mandarin songs and Cantonese opera. He loved Chinese food and learned how to cook it. He led a simple and carefree life until the onset of his health problems several years ago.
Peter leaves behind a family who loved him deeply: his sons Matthew (Teresa), Edwin (Linda), and daughter Helen Cordero-Will (John). He is also survived by his grandchildren Jerome (Jennifer), Julian (Megan), and Geoffrey Fung, Jaime (Chelsey) and Amanda Cordero, Erin Weiss (Andrew); and by his great grandsons Nathan, Timothy, Jeremy, and Samuel Fung, Mateo and Nico Cordero, and Oliver Weiss.
Although he had his share of bad times and the pains of old age, he was on the whole a happy man most of his life. His family is grateful to God for the blessings He has given him.
