Philip J. Peluso

April 16, 1944 — April 5, 2024

Odenton

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Philip Joseph Peluso, age 79, who passed away peacefully at his home on April 5, 2024, in Odenton, Maryland. The son of Italian immigrants, Augustino and Theresa Peluso. He grew up in Hyattsville, Maryland along with his 3 brothers Jerry, Peter and Paul (all deceased) and four sisters Catherine O’Connor (deceased), Joanna Policelli, Theresa Donahue and MaryAnn Young.

Phil was employed with the Washington Gas Light Company for 33 years. After his retirement, he became a shareholder with Williams Construction & Meter Service, where he served for many years as an active board member up until the time of his death. Phil was a respected associate of his profession and known for his critical thinking, hard-working demeanor, attention to detail, and a person who would always lead by example. He received his Associate of Arts degree from Prince George’s Community College and held several master licenses.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Phil was a devoted family man, who exemplified true integrity, strength, sacrifice and generosity. He was a man with many stories, and his impact will forever be felt by the lives of those he leaves behind. His bright light, broad smile and heart of gold made an impact on those who were blessed to know him. Phil was an active member of the Crofton Country Club. He would often be found enjoying the camaraderie of friends through the game of golf. Additionally, Phil was a gifted and talented self-taught woodworker. He could turn an ordinary piece of wood into a work of art. His creations were always gifted to others, and now serve as his legacy of lasting treasures for future generations.

He was a beloved husband to Betsy Peluso, and devoted father to David (Stephanie) Peluso, Sharon (Michael) McGarvey, Angela (Pete) Tomasulo and Monica (Rob) Frick.

Phil is survived by his wife of 59 years, his four children, 15 grandchildren – Emily (Clayton Smith), Philip, and Jessica Peluso; Colette, Cecile, Camille, Claire and Chloe McGarvey; Alexandra, Mikaela, Chris, and Jake Tomasulo; Ben, Colin and Zach Frick and one great-grandchild Shannon Smith, as well as his 3 sisters, numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Phil will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace knowing that his memory will live on forever in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him dearly.
