Rebecca A. Nemetz

Longtime Bowie resident Rebecca George Nemetz passed away at an assisted living facility in Columbia on 14 March 2024. She was 89. Originally from Pacolet Mills, SC she was President of her Senior Class in 1952 and voted by her classmates as being ‘Most likely to succeed’. She later attended Cecil’s Business College in Spartanburg before moving to the DC Metro area in the late 1950s to work for the Federal Government. She married Eugene J. Nemetz, JR in 1959 and they remained married until his death in 2019. She left the workforce to become a homemaker but later worked in the Graduate Admissions Department at Bowie State University before retiring in the mid-1990s. Rebecca and Eugene shared a love of travel, picking up a VW Camper new from the factory in West Germany and touring Europe before having it shipped back to the US. They continued to travel extensively and later made it to all 50 States. In addition to traveling she enjoyed gardening, doing puzzles, and playing piano. She is survived by her sons Dennis and Jim.
