It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ricardo, who left this world on September 8th, 2026, at the age of 67. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, whose kindness, strength, humor, and love will remain with all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born on October 3rd,1958 in Washington, D.C., Ricardo was the cherished son of Edward and Maryland Phillips. Throughout his life, he touched people in quiet but lasting ways. He had a generous heart, a warm smile, and a gift for making others feel seen, supported, and welcome. To his family, he was more than a brother—he was a friend, a protector, a source of laughter, and someone whose presence made life feel steadier and brighter.
Ricardo will be remembered for his devotion to family. He genuinely loved his family and friends. Although he sometimes found it difficult to say the words “I love you” he expressed his love through his deeds and actions. From delivering groceries and cash to his mother to protecting his siblings from harm, Ricardo was always there when his family needed him.
In his earlier years, Ricardo worked for Inova Alexandria Seminary Hospital as an Xray technician, Air Bourne/DHL as a Warehouse Manager and later for Republic National Distributors, as a Warehouse Associate.
He found joy in creating memories with his family and friends that all will hold close forever. Whether through a thoughtful conversation, a helping hand, or one of his familiar jokes, he had a way of bringing comfort and joy to those around him.
He is survived by his Mother: Maryland A. Phillips, siblings: Wayne D. Phillips (Deborah), Denise M. Fisher, Donald Phillips (Lisa), Ronald Phillips (Sharon), Frances Gamble (Hayes), Andre Wilson, 18 nieces and nephews, 29 great nieces and nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his Brother Eddie, Sister Michelle, Father Edward, Brother-law Vince, Grandmother Julia Mae, Grandmother Mary, Grandfather Ester, Grandfather Charles, Uncle Samuel and Aunt Hazel.
Though we grieve the loss of Ricardo we are profoundly grateful for the time we had with him. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love will remain in our hearts always. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Ricardo was one of the most important people in our lives. He knew us in ways few others could, shared memories that no one else could replace and gave love that we will carry with us always. We will miss his voice, his laughter, his advice, and simply knowing he was there. Although he is no longer by our side, he will forever remain in our hearts.
A service to celebrate Ricardo’s life will be held at Glenn Dale Fire Department, on Friday, October 16, 2026 from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
