Richard Bakalar, better known as Rusty or Uncle Rusty, was the youngest of three children. His sister Sue, formerly of Bowie, now lives in Millersville and his brother Buck lives in Florida.
Rusty was born on April 13, 1962 in Jacksonville, Florida, but he lived most of his life in Maryland. He coached soccer for the Bowie Boys Club while working as an electrician. He was also an EMT for Company 39 for many years. Finally, he was the House Manager at Champ House recovery center until he suffered a stroke in 2018. He said Champ House gave him his purpose in life. Rusty had a great heart and always thrived when serving others.
After having suffered a massive heart attack on January 16, 2024, Rusty passed without regaining consciousness on February 20, 2024.
He never married but the love of his life were his dogs, Bear and Harley, who we know was there to greet him in Heaven. Bear is now living with cousin Laurie.
Rest in Peace Rusty.
