Ricky Renarto Williams was born on May 13, 1954, in Washington, DC, to the late Ora Lee Barnes-Williams-Haywood and the late Willie H. Williams. A proud graduate of Spingarn High School, Ricky went on to attend Wilberforce University.
Affectionately known as Rick, Skinny Rick, G-Daddy, Unk, and Uncle Ricky, he was a man full of energy, warmth, and charisma. In his younger years, he was an avid athlete, playing league football and basketball. Even in retirement, he remained active, dedicating time to the gym and his love for roller skating. He was also a die-hard Washington Redskins (now Commanders) fan, never missing a game and proudly supporting his hometown team.
Ricky and his beloved wife, Gail, shared a passion for travel, especially cruising with family. With his magnetic personality and warm heart, he had a gift for making everyone feel like a friend. Whether through a joke, a story, or a simple conversation, he had a way of bringing people together and making them feel at home. The life of the party, he loved dancing, singing karaoke, and reminiscing about his childhood with friends.
Above all, Ricky cherished his daughters, Shannon and Kelli, and his granddaughter, Morgan. A true “girl dad,” he took immense pride in supporting them, attending every event and milestone in their lives. His love and devotion to his family were unwavering. He was also a father figure to many, a role he wore with honor, guiding and supporting others just as he did his own family. His influence extended far beyond his immediate circle, and his kindness and wisdom touched the lives of many who were fortunate enough to know him.
Music was another passion of Ricky’s—he had a beautiful voice and sang in multiple choirs throughout his life. Gospel music held a special place in his heart, and his soulful singing was a gift to all who knew him.
Ricky was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a cherished brother, and a dear friend to many. His presence left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Gail Salter Williams; his daughters, Kelli and Shannon; his adored granddaughter, Morgan Gantt; and his bonus daughter, Alicia Smith. He is also survived by his brothers, Willie Williams (Annell), Eric McKiney (Latoya), and Cedric Norwood; and his sisters, Geraldine Washington, Phyliss Williams-Hampton, Louvenia Williams, Casandra Gibson-White (Trevor), Claudette McKiney, and Vera Williams.
