Robert Julius Dietrich

Robert J. “Bob” Dietrich, age 84, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 1, 1942, he was the son of the late Robert and Gertrude (Lewis) Dietrich. Bob served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1966. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He started his career with the Burroughs Corporation and stayed there as it evolved into Unisys, before retiring in 2007.

In his spare time, Bob enjoyed building HO scale models. He was a true artist when it came to his craft. He was a member and past president (serving multiple terms) of the East Penn Traction Club and earned a number of awards at the shows they took part in. He was also a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Downingtown, PA.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Laura Dietrich, who passed away in 2025. He is survived by his loving children, Shawn Dietrich (Stephanie) and Jennifer Shotto (Gregory); grandson, Connor Shotto; and sisters, Marilyn Bals, Cathy Parise, and Virginia Dietrich.
