It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Rodney (Rod) Jon Jago on June 22, 2025. He died peacefully in his home in Spring Arbor, Crofton, Maryland, where he lived with his wife Joann Jago. Rodney, son of Florence and John Jago, was born on January 9, 1938 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Rodney is survived by his beautiful and loving wife Joann (known to most as Jodie) of 38 years, his brother Don Jago (Joyce), his four daughters, Michelle Vaughn (Michael), Marie Nenno (Kevin), Suzanne Dove (DeWayne), Stefanie Farr (Michael), step-daughter, Katie Gochnour (Bill), and step-son, Bob Alcorn (Paula), twelve grandchildren, Cassie, Emily (TJ), Matthew (Alyssa), Jessica (Nick), Jared (Kaily), Travis, Caley, Tai (Jennifer), Heather (Michael), Jenna, Dahlia, Ian, and great-grandchildren, Chloë and Lilia.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Therese Janette and by his sister, Jacquelyn Wendelberger (Jerry).
Rod grew up in Milwaukee and joined the Air Force after he attended St. Lawrence Seminary and obtained his Bachelor’s degree. He met his first wife, Jean, mother of his four daughters, through an Air Force buddy, Jean’s twin brother. From there he had an exceptional career as an Air Traffic Controller in the Air Force while he and Jean raised their four daughters. They lived across the U.S. and spent a short time overseas, finally settling in Maryland. He retired from the Air Force as a Major and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War.
After retirement from the Air Force he had a successful career in the air transportation and security industry, during which time he met his second wife and love of his life, Jodie. Rod and Jodie had a happy marriage filled with adventure and fun times with their children and grandchildren. They did some traveling, lots of golfing, and enjoyed home life in Bowie, Maryland.
Rod was a lover of the outdoors, especially fishing, gardening, and taking care of his backyard birds. He was always ready with something funny to say, or a laugh or smile to share. He loved the Green Bay Packers (and texting his brother and sister during the games).
In his last years with us, Rod cared for and was cared for by many, including his family, friends, the wonderful team at Maryland Oncology Hematology and the amazing staff at Spring Arbor Crofton.
