Rosa Etta Douglas was born on April 13, 1927 in Mitchellville, Maryland to the late John and Rosetta Stewart. She departed this life on Wednesday morning August 20, 2025 at Sligo Creek Rehabilitation Center in Tacoma Park, MD.
She attended elementary school at Oak Grove Elementary School in Mitchellville, Maryland. She went on to attend Douglas Jr. & Sr. High School in Upper Marlboro, MD, where she graduated.
After graduating, she started her working career at the Q & S Laundry in Hyattsville, MD. She retired from the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland as a mail clerk, after a number of decades.
Rosa was a people person, she brought all of her female siblings to Washington to live with her. From there, they went to school and was able to start their careers with the federal government. After the death of her parents, she became the matriarch of the family. She enjoyed baking and cooking and consequently, her home became the gathering place for the family.
She was preceded in death by her father John Stewart Sr., mother Rosetta Stewart, four sisters; Mary Brown, Irene Spriggs, Doris Chandler and Gladys Brandon. She is survived by one son Samuel Sr. one grandson Samuel Jr. (Joey) two sisters, Helen Stewart and Barbara Templeman, two brothers, John Stewart Jr. and James Stewart and a host of cousins and friends.
