Rose Marie Jung (nee Gaidula) , born on Jan. 10, 1926 in Taylor, PA., was the 6th of 13 children born to Peter and Kathleen Gaidula. Her father helped found St George’s Russian Orthodox Church, and she was raised in that religion. Because of that she loved Russian music, icons, and foods her whole life. Rose Marie attended Taylor High School and then moved to Washington DC, becoming a secretary at the Surgeon General’s office during World War II. At the USO she met her future husband, Navy musician Leonard Jung, whom she married on Nov 3, 1945. They bought a home in Radiant Valley, MD and joined the brand new St Ambrose Catholic Church where they raised their seven children. Rose Marie stayed busy during her child-rearing years, sewing her children’s clothes, becoming active in the local Homemakers Club and making arts , crafts, and jewelry. She was a columnist for the Prince George’s Post for years and a member of Citizens for Action political group. Rose Marie was a talented fashion show coordinator and model for local dress shops so was always dressed to the nines.
Rose Marie was a member of the Prince George’s County Association of Realtors for over 50 years and served as its first female President in 1990. In her over 40 years in Real Estate, she received the prestigious Realtor Emeritus recognition from the National Association of Realtors in 2017. She was a proud member of the Women’s Council of Realtors, serving as their President and committed volunteer throughout her career in real estate. Rose Marie was a long-time agent with Long & Foster Real Estate and was well respected within industry circles
In 2007 Rose Marie and Leonard moved to Bowie where they became members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She volunteered at the Bowie Senior Center serving lunches. She also joined the local Red Hat Society called the Ra Ra Sisters. She served as their vice queen for a time and loved their many trips and adventures together.
Rose Marie was an energetic lady with many hobbies including music, dancing (polkas!), books, jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She collected ceramic Christmas trees and matryoshkas. She loved snow, often walking or playing in it. She'd get excited when hummingbirds returned for the season, spending hours watching them come to her feeders. She was a wonderful baker. She played board games and delighted in beating people at Scrabble, at which she excelled. And don’t forget the slot machines. Rose Marie loved any kind of party and for holidays she always dressed in fun clothing or costumes. She usually had matching jewelry including blinking necklaces and Huge earrings. She enjoyed traveling and sightseeing especially to Hawaii. She was always on the go!
She is survived by all 7 of her children : Eric Jung , Neil Jung, Sharon Jung Zeller (Thomas Carrell), Kathy Jung (Joseph Furtwengler) , Dennis Jung (Lisa Kane),
Mary Ann Jung ( Thomas Plott) , Madelyn Jung Byrd ( James Byrd) .
Also her four grandchildren, Dominique Echard , Jason Zeller ( Annie Skilton) , Paul Jung and Joe Byrd (Julia), and two great granddaughters Peyton and Joleen Byrd.
One sister Ruth Griffiths ( Albert) and one brother William Gaidula survive her as well.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years Leonard Jung who died in Dec. 2016.
