Rose Mary Toth

May 12, 1931 – February 10, 2026

Rose Mary Toth, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, in Severna Park, Maryland, in the presence of her loved ones.

Born on May 12, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rose was raised in Phoenixville, PA, by her loving foster parents, Henry and Alice Ryan, who later adopted her.

Growing up, during her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her siblings, going to dances, roller skating, taking car rides, and participating in events at the Slovak Club and the American Legion. Rose graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Norristown, PA, in 1950. After high school, she worked as an office clerk at Jerry’s Markets and began training to be a nurse. Shortly thereafter, she met Albert Toth Jr., a United States Marine, and they married on September 7, 1957.

As a devoted military spouse, Rose managed the frequent relocations that accompanied Marine Corps life with patience. She became adept at packing up a household and guiding her four children through each new chapter. Among the places she called home were Oahu, Hawaii, and Bowie, Maryland. During her time in Bowie, she was a member of the Sodality at St. Pius X Church.

Rose later settled in Marshalls Creek, Pennsylvania, where she made her home for nearly 30 years. Faith remained central in her life, and she was a longtime member of her parish choir during her years in the Poconos. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, regularly visiting sick patients at the local hospital. She found contentment in quiet surroundings, time near the water, and the restorative beauty of nature. From 2016 to 2019, she lived in Chester, Maryland, in a home overlooking the water—a setting she cherished. In her later years, she remained in Maryland, residing first in independent living and then at Household of Angels, where she was cared for with kindness and compassion until her passing in 2026.

Affectionately known as the “cake lady,” Rose loved baking cakes for anyone she thought might want or need one. She adored sweets, espoused the virtues of sweets, and initiated many ecumenical activities to spread the good word of sugar. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of Frosty treats at Wendy’s, hot fudge sundaes from McDonald’s, and endless candies tucked away in the car. Known as the “traveling grandmom,” she frequently made the five-hour drive south from the Poconos to Maryland simply to be present in her grandchildren’s lives, joking that she was a “bag lady” because she always kept a change of clothes in the back of her car.

Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she crossed states – and occasionally oceans – to be with them. Throughout every season of her life, she carried with her a deep devotion to family and faith. She is remembered as having a charitable and generous heart.

Rose is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (William) Potter; her son, Timothy (Jennifer) Toth; her grandchildren, Janna Green, Victoria (KC) Jones, Bryan Toth, Emily (Ryan) Pollione, Regina (Connor) Simoncelli, Michael Potter, Hannah (Benjamin) Callahan, Katharine Toth, Jonathan Paul Potter, and Akira Potter (also known as Marybeth Potter); her great-grandchildren, Marcus Jones, Felicity Jones, Nicholas Jones, Sophia Simoncelli, Antonio Simoncelli, and Ozias Callahan; her brother, Harry Marshall; and her sister, Mary Florence Larkin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert A. Toth, Jr.; her children, Gregory Toth and Lawrence Toth; and her brother, Francis Marshall.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Phoenixville, PA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the same church. The Mass will be celebrated by her nephew, Father Jay Horan. Interment will follow at Saint Ann Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA, where Rose will be laid to rest with her late husband, Albert. Military honors will take place for Albert at the cemetery.
