Rosemary M. Marquette

September 4, 1941 — September 1, 2022

Rosemary Moran Marquette passed on September 1, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinson’s in Centreville, MD.  Rosemary is survived by her spouse of 52 years, Earl, and son, Stephen.  Rosemary was predeceased by her son, Michael.

Rosemary lived a life of service as a proud, self-effacing mother, nurse, and volunteer.  Born in Pottsville, PA, Rosemary was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Moran.  After several moves supporting Tom's jobs during WWII, the family landed in Towson, MD, where she attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and Towson Catholic High School.

From an early age, Rosemary knew she would go into nursing.  She graduated from Saint Joseph's College in Emmitsburg, MD, with a B.S. in Nursing in 1963.  Just two years after graduating from nursing school, she quickly rose to serve as Hospital Supervisor at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. Having excelled in this position, the hospital promoted her to Assistant Director of Nursing until 1972 when she started graduate school.

A lifetime learner, Rosemary went on to receive an M.S. in Hospital Administration from the University of Maryland, College of Nursing, and then an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University.

While pursuing graduate studies, she remained an impactful leader and innovator.  Through part-time consulting roles, Rosemary worked to modernize nursing and specialized hospital care, including establishing the first intensive care units at Providence, Howard Memorial, and Fallston Hospitals until her retirement in 1975.

Rosemary put family first despite professional success.  She transitioned to raising two boys, Michael and Stephen, and later caring for her mother for more than ten years at home.

Her service to others continued through the church.  For more than 30 years, Rosemary volunteered at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton in Crofton, MD, where she and Earl were founding parishioners.  Rosemary's efforts in growing the parish's outreach led to lasting programs that have served tens of thousands of at-need families throughout Anne Arundel County and Baltimore, MD.  Rosemary was a consummate learner and reader and enjoyed writing poems and painting in her free time.

A funeral service will be held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church (1800 Seton Dr. Crofton, MD 21114) at 11 am on Saturday, September 10, 2022.  A viewing will be held between 10-11 am prior to the service.  Rosemary will be buried in Pottsville, PA, with her son, Michael.

The family requests donations to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Food Pantry (https://www.givecentral.org/location/454/event/11706) instead of flowers.
