Bowie

Russell Lee Moore of Bowie, MD.

5/12/1954 – 1/17/2024 after a long illness.

Born in Washington, D.C.   Preceded in death by parents Ouida and Donald Moore and brother David Moore.  Survived by his siblings Donald Moore, Jr. (Karen), Ouida Fluck (Alan), Todd Moore (Lisa), Melinda Smyth (Tim) and Daniel Moore (Amy).  He was deeply loved by all and affectionately referred to as “Uncle Awesome” or “Uncle Bro” by his nephews Justin, Alan, Jr., Christopher, Nathan, David and William and nieces Melanie, Tiffany, Ali and Katie and their many friends. He attended Holy Family Elementary School in Hillcrest Heights, MD and Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, MD.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland.  He was Vice President of the family business, B & D Carpet Shop, Inc.

Russ retired several years ago and spent his time attending family events and doting on his nieces and nephews.  He was a frequent visitor to his beach house in Ocean City, MD where he loved cruising in his 1985 Corvette.  Russ loved to travel including numerous trips to Florida to visit family and the theme parks as well as trips across the US and international travel.  His many adventures included his ultimate dream trip of driving cross country with family members.

Russ embodied generosity and love.   He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family.  He truly loved each of them – and they knew it.

On January 17, 2024, Russell Moore shed his earthly pain and made a graceful exit, surrounded by his adoring family and the love he had nurtured all of his life.

Russ’ wonderful sense of humor and cleverness were well known and will be one of his traits that will be most missed.  He made every event that he was a part of more fun and could see the funny side in just about any situation.  He was kind, caring and brought exuberance to family get togethers.  He had a playful and childlike approach to life and fully indulged in it.  Russ’ energy and resilience was admirable and contagious.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to the American Cancer Society.  Please pause for Russ, have a laugh, a genuine grin and enjoy the zest of life.  Russ will be terribly missed.
