BOWIE – Ruth E. Cox, 101, died January 30, 2022 at Hospice of the Chesapeake. She was born in April 27, 1920, in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of Otto C. and Jeanette (Malicka) Hansen.
Ruth graduated from St. John’s High School, Class of 38. Following graduation, she entered nursing school at St. Vincent’s in Portland, where she received her nursing degree. After graduation she joined the US Navy Nurse Corps and served for two years from 1944 to 1946 at the USNH Seattle. Ruth resigned her commission as a LT. JG in 1946 when she met and married her husband Navy Chief Charles L. Cox that same year. They settled in Maryland and were married for 44 years. Ruth was an avid bowler and was a member of the Crofton bowling league. She had a green thumb and was always tending to her garden.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles and son Paul. Surviving are her sons Charles Cox of Seffner, FL, John Cox of Bowie and James Cox and wife Georgia of Crownsville; five grandchildren, Paul Cox, Kevin Cox, Mathew Cox, Katherine Cox, Christopher Cox and wife Chelsea and three great grandchildren Noah Cox, Lucas Cox and Elijah Cox.
