Sharon Neill

Sharon Neill, 78, of Davidsonville, MD passed from this life on Tuesday June 23, 2026 at home with family after her almost 20 year battle with breast cancer. She was born March 25, 1948 in Oahu, Hawaii to the late Clarence Rich and Muriel Sullivan (Grandma Winx). Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Rolla Rich and her husband of 44 years, Arthur Neill.

She grew up traveling the USA as her Navy pilot dad was stationed in several states on the East Coast and California. They spent time at her grandparents Rich and Sullivan’s farms in Montana and she enjoyed helping her mom raise her siblings since her dad was often gone for military duties. She attended over 12 different schools from K-12th grade. After graduating in 1969 from the InterAmerican University in Puerto Rico while her family was stationed there, she got her Master’s Degree in education from George Washington University in DC. She started teaching English at Prince George’s community college for a few years when her kids were young, then in Prince George’s County Public Schools until January 1, 2025 as a Home and Hospital teacher coordinator. She helped fight with the union and at the State level to get home teachers equitable pay.

In 1971, while working at a drive-in movie theater in Virginia, she met and fell in love with a customer in a cool car. They were married just a few months later in May 1972, had 2 children and an incredible life together. The family enjoyed annual vacations to Daytona Beach, Florida where she played ball with the kids and made the best drip sand castles. She had creative games for entertainment in the long 12-14 hour car rides and the many birthday parties she hosted. She even hosted Thanksgiving 2 weeks after giving birth in 1976.

Sharon loved helping people, especially her family, as well as all the kids and families she served through home teaching and scouts. She cared for her husband Art through his battle with cancer, and helped him through his daily life as a paraplegic. She was hardworking, and had a competitive spirit and amazing memory. She served as her children’s Girl Scout and Cub Scout leaders, as well as putting together newsletters for their schools by hand. The last few years she had shared her vast knowledge as a Scout leader and merit badge counselor, especially about citizenship and heritage, including to people via zoom that she had never met in person. She was proud of all of her grandsons’ academic, athletic and other successes attending events as often as she could to cheer them on. Her final weekend, she enjoyed watching Arturo’s rock concert and was honored to get pinned at Tyler & Tristan’s Eagle Scout Ceremony.

She is survived by her children, Wendy and Art, son-in-law Lionel, daughter-in-law Arianna, and her grandsons Tyler, Tristan, and Arturo.
