Shawn Dwayne Kemp, age 51, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, in Delmar, Delaware. Born on February 5, 1974, in Washington, D.C., Shawn was the beloved son of Michael A. Williams and Deborah T. Kemp, both lifelong residents of Washington, D.C.
Shawn was educated in the public school systems of Washington, D.C., and Prince George’s County, Maryland. He later pursued his GED and completed a certification in Brick Masonry through Potomac Job Corps. With a steadfast work ethic and a passion for driving, he went on to earn his CDL through C.R. England, Inc., launching a long and accomplished career in the transportation and logistics field.
For more than two decades, Shawn dedicated himself to the world of merchandising, shipping, and transportation. His professional journey included valuable roles with Hechinger, Safeway's Bakery and Meat Department, Anderson News, Stroehmann Bakeries/Northeast Foods, and C.R. England, Inc. In later years, he proudly became the Owner and Operator of Kemp’s Transportation LLC, a venture that reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and determination.
Shawn was deeply rooted in family and found great joy in being a father, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his devoted parents, Michael and Deborah; his six beloved children: Jayvon Kemp, Aneyia Kemp, and four children gained through marriage, Devonte Harris, Damyia Smith, Ty’Quan Brummell and Robert Brummell. He was formerly married to Atyesha Harris in 2003 and later to Karen Brummell in 2021, with whom he shared years of companionship and love.
Shawn also leaves behind his siblings: Benjamin (Ben) Franklin, Dr. Akaisha Douglas, and Kevin Hairston Jr. He was a cherished uncle to Bria Young, LaKenaisha Gilyard, and Courtney McDonald; and a proud great-uncle to Malakyi, Jaxn, Makiya, and McKenzie. His extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends will remember him for his warm heart, easy laugh, and deep loyalty.
A man of simple pleasures, Shawn loved music, movies, football, and video games. His presence lit up the room, and he never failed to offer support, a good story, or a smile when it was needed most. He lived with humility and strength, and his memory will be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
Shawn Dwayne Kemp's life was a testament to perseverance, love, and the enduring power of family. Especially his good hearted nature. Always willing to help others when he could. He will be missed dearly, but never forgotten.
