Shirley Rose Farmer (nee Sneyers) of Odenton, Maryland was born on May 27, 1935, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Eva (Bouchey) and Robert Sneyers. Passed away at age 90, on Friday, November 28, 2025.
She met her husband, Peter Paul Farmer, through mutual friends in Hoboken, New Jersey. They were married on November 23, 1957. They took a road trip to Arizona, planning to stay, before deciding to call Maryland their forever home state.
Shirley made a life of caring for her children and only learned to drive when she was pregnant with her youngest daughter – out of necessity. Once the children were all in school, she entered the workforce, working as a cashier at a dining hall on the University of Maryland College Park campus. She loved her job interacting with the students who treated her kindly and with much admiration. When she retired, she and Pete picked up the childcare bug and bestowed much love (and food) on their grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Mary (Pearl) Wolff and Dorothy Cohen, her brothers Charles and Robert; her husband Peter; and her grandson Patrick (Powell). She is survived by her children: David, Cain, Diane (Toney/Bolin), Susan (Frank Clark), and Roseann (Neil Powell); her grandchildren: Michael Toney, Crystal Clark, Jessica Clark, Jonathan Powell, Nicholas Powell, Amber Bolin, and Joshua Powell; and one great-granddaughter, Penelope Bolin.
Shirley will be interred with her husband at Crownsville Veteran’s Cemetery in a private family-only ceremony on Friday, January 16, 2026. The family is having a celebration of life, in which all friends and family are welcome to attend, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 12 noon at Chesepiooc Real Ale Brewery – 2408 Crofton Boulevard, Crofton, Maryland 21114.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made on her behalf to the Dementia Society https://www.dementiasociety.org/
