Stan Ostrom passed away November 6, 2025 at the age of 82 in Maryland with family by his side, helping him navigate that last amazing run of his life. He will soon be brought home to his beloved Reno, Nevada. He was born in Reno in December 1942 to John J. Ostrom and Helen R. Webb Ostrom.

Stan was a man of much energy and spirit! He was an avid outdoorsman, spending as much time in nature as possible, making sure his family learned to water ski and fish, along with hiking, camping, and annual week long backpacking trips in many National and State parks in the western United States each summer. Winters were spent snow shoeing and cross-country and downhill skiing on Mount Rose and all over the Sierra Nevadas. He also led Boy Scout Troops on many adventures, enjoying the opportunities to teach them skills they could use for life! He enjoyed deer and duck hunting, bike riding all over California and Nevada, and kayaking on Lake Tahoe, but his true love was Ultra-Marathon running. He loved running the iconic New York Marathon as well as many local California and Nevada trail runs, like The Summit to Summit Run and The Tahoe Rim Trail Run! But his crowning moments were his finishing of the Western States 100 Endurance Run in 2004 and helping to engineer and implement the Silver State 50/50 Trail Run for many years.

Stan served proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War and upon returning to the US, headed off to college. After graduating from BYU in 1970, he started work as an Engineer for Pacific Bell and retired in 1998 as a Vice President of Nevada Bell. He then received his Master’s from University of Colorado and worked as a Telecommunications Consultant and Contractor. He also worked to serve others, from pacing new runners in the Silver State Striders running club, helping organize and run many community service opportunities as President of The Telephone Pioneers of America in Nevada, to digging water wells in Africa for those in need of access to clean water. He enjoyed traveling the world and going on kayaking and hiking adventures with his partner Marianne. He was an avid San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan, cheering them on, and making sure his children understood the nuances of the game, and that you should root for your team no matter what. Above all though, he cherished every gathering with family and friends where he could be with the people he loved most, sharing stories and laughter.

He is survived by his partner Marianne Morgan, and his sister Sharon Dumke; daughter Erin (John) Triplett, son Jason (Shaunna Kaufman, former wife, and mother of his children) Ostrom. He is also survived by his former wife of 34 years and mother of his children, Gini Ostrom, and his cherished grandchildren Madylene Triplett, and Bella, Avett, and Colin Ostrom.
