Stella Gerus Merkle

Stella Merkle, 92, of Crofton, Maryland passed away November 2, 2022. She leaves behind her loving daughter Melanie and a host of adored nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack, and all eight brothers and sisters. She was born in Tidioute, Pennsylvania to Frank Gerus and Molly Sagan Gerus, who immigrated to the US from Ukraine.  Stella was a Navy wife and moved around the country as his assignments took them.  They moved to Bowie, Maryland when Jack retired from the Navy.  She was an active member of the Christian Community Presbyterian Church there, as well as a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Stella was an avid gardener, and enjoyed finding and pressing wildflowers and making pictures and cards with them. She and Jack traveled extensively, always making friends in the countries they visited. She also enjoyed cheering for the Washington Nationals.  A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Friday, November 18 at the Crofton Country Club.
