Virginia M. Canine

Virginia was born in Buffalo, New York on December 29, 1930, the daughter of Rollin J. Martin and Jessie C. Martin. She met Edwin Canine during his undergraduate years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They would later marry, while Edwin served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, in February 1954. He would be the love of her life and guiding light for the next 57 years. She supported Edwin in his 33-year career at NSA as a wife, mother, and homemaker. She also worked at Casual Corner in Annapolis for several years, as a sales associate, developing a sense of fashion and a love for shopping and interior design that would stick with her and be evident the rest of her life. Her occasional mispronunciation of words was a beloved trademark and a source of many memories for everyone. She loved being with family and friends, particularly at Christmas, and spending her summers in their family home on the lake in Island Pond, Vermont. Virginia was a resident of Crofton, Maryland since August 1965. She is survived by her three children, Susan C. Stowe and her husband Alfred, Peter M. Canine and his wife Carol, Elizabeth A. Harlow and her husband Scott; five grandchildren, Zachary, Virginia, Jessica, Alexander and Andrew. A private interment will be held in Island Pond, Vermont.
