ALLACE NALLE EDELEN SR. OF SEVERNA PARK, MD, PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY ON FEBRUARY 28, 2024, AT THE AGE OF 86. HE WAS BORN JANUARY 12, 1938, IN WASHINGTON, DC., HE IS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS IGNATIUS GARDINER EDELEN AND MARYBETH (BOWLING) EDELEN, HIS BROTHER DOMINIC GARDINER BOWLING EDELEN, AND HIS WIFE BARBARA MARY LEONNIG, WHOM HE MARRIED IN JANUARY OF 1966. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS OLDER BROTHER IGNATIUS GARDINER EDELEN AND HIS TWIN RICHARD BENJAMIN EDELEN, HIS CHILDREN MILDRED EDELEN GARNER (RODNEY), WALLACE NALLE EDELEN JR (COLLEEN), ALICIA WARING KREITZER (DAVID) AND AN EXTENSIVE FAMILY TREE OF NIECES AND NEPHEWS, AS WELL AS GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.
AT A YOUNG AGE HE VOLUNTEERED FOR UPPER MARLBORO FIRE STATION 20, WORKED AS A LOCAL TRUCKER IN BALTIMORE, THEN BECOMING HIS OWN BOSS AND PROUD BUSINESS OWNER BY PURCHASING BEL AIR TEXACO IN 1969, EDELEN’S LIQUORS IN 1980 AND STARTED EDELEN’S TOWING WITH HIS SON AND ELDEST DAUGHTER IN 1987. AFTER RETIRING, HE RELOCATED TO REEDSVILLE, VIRGINIA, HE SWITCHED GEARS AND WORKED CLOSELY WITH SEA RESCUE BY DONATING HIS TIME AS A DISPATCHER.
HE ENJOYED PLAYING POKER ON FRIDAY NIGHTS WITH HIS FRIENDS. HE WAS AN AVID HUNTER AND FISHERMAN, AND LOVED HIS LABS, WHISKEY AND GINGER. HE WAS WELL TRAVELED IN THE US AND ABROAD. HE WAS INVOLVED WITH THE KIWANIS AND THE LIONS CLUB. HE WAS A VERY SOCIAL PERSON THAT LOVED HELPING OTHERS. HE VERY MUCH LOVED HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY. HE WILL BE MISSED FOR HIS GENEROUS SMILE, BELLY ROLL LAUGHING AND HIS ABILITY TO BE THERE FOR OTHERS. FINALLY, WALLY ALWAYS HAD TIME TO GIVE YOU HIS CRITIQUE ON ALL HOME COOKED SOUTHERN MARYLAND CUISINE. WE THINK HE MISSED HIS CALLING!
