William T. Tyson Jr, age 80, of Riverdale, Maryland, passed away on April 24, 2025.
He was born on March 3, 1945 in Washington DC to William and Josephine Tyson. After graduating from high school, he answered the call of duty in the United States Army. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage, commitment, and sacrifice.
After returning home, he began his career in General Services Administration as a HVAC technician until his early retirement. He married Mary Elizabeth Bakersmith on June 20, 1970, and together they built a loving family. William Tyson Jr was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Tyson, his children, William Tyson and his wife Christina; their children Kyle, Kaitlyn and Sean. His son, John Tyson and his wife Carrie Tyson; their children Herb and his wife Allie, Anthony, Marlaina and her husband Isaiah, Meghan, Nick, Nicole, Madison and Marissa. His daughter, Amy Tyson and her children Tyler and Kylie. His daughter, Lisa Naecker and her husband Dylann, their children Madilynn, Lilliauna and DJ. His daughters Joy and Christine Tyson. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren: Serenity, Sebastian, Raelynn, Maddox and Willow.
A viewing will be held on May 3, 2025, from 11:00am to 12:00pm followed by a memorial honoring his life and military service at 12:00pm. Both will be held at Woodlawn Baptist Church at 5001 Church Road, Bowie, MD 20720. Burial with full military honors will take place at a later date at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
