Emilie B. Murphy

Emilie Barone Murphy, 82, was reunited with the congregation of Heaven in the early hours of Friday, November 15, 2019. Known affectionately as Mimi, she lived a joyous life of service, not only to her beautiful friends and family, but to her students as well.

Mimi was born in Throop, Pennsylvania, on May 14, 1937, to Milo and Mary Barone. A true follower of Christ, she called Sacred Heart Church and St. Pius X Parish in Bowie, Maryland, her home, and the worship community her friends. Mimi was an eternally independent soul. She felt equally comfortable surrounded by friends and family as she felt doing things on her own, often setting free her wandering spirit through her many travels. Her love of shopping is a trait that has been passed down to not only her children, but her children’s children. Mimi lived with a heart full of love and courage, complemented by a sharp mind - as evidenced by her skills at bridge. As a lifelong reader, Mimi found peace and entertainment in a good book while always expanding knowledge. When not reading, you could find her tending to her garden - lush with plants and flowers of all shapes, sizes and colors.

After graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, Mimi began her long and successful career as an elementary school teacher in Prince George’s County. Later, she taught in Bowie at Pointer Ridge Elementary School until her retirement in 1997. In lieu of flowers, Mimi requests donation to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Acute Care for the Elderly. Unit. During her stay, she experienced service above and beyond the standard, complete with beautiful live music to heal not only the body, but the soul.
